Using text in CorelDraw

There are two different methods of using text in CorelDraw.
1. Artistic Text
2. Paragraph Text.

QuickSmart Signs Australia discusses Artistic Text.

Artistic Text in CorelDraw

When making signs and digital printing and other large signage projects, Artistic text is an option to creatively manipulate texts. Paragraph texts are used for documents and have some creative benefits such as text wrap etc, however Artistic text can be better manipulated and gives better signage results and allows more creativity.

Wise use of guidelines, duplicating text and use of contour lines give better mathematical design qualities.

When using Artistic text, select the desired font ( letter style) and start typing on the page as default properties.

When correct spelling and typing is achieved, remain in the text tool option and re-select the text. On the top title tool bar, you can now choose from different text properties such as font, height, weight, size etc. Continue working with your text until satisfied with the creative outcome.

Once you Artistic Text is accomplished, on the top title tool bar, and with the text selected, Choose Convert to Curves. This tool reduces your text to an object in properties. (Select the text using the Pick tool, and click Arrange } Convert to curves)

With Artistic Text converted to curves, it is no longer considered to be a font and can be exported to any other output system without fear of change of properties.

If you are exporting your convert to curve object to programs such as Photoshop, Image Ready or other graphic drawing program, the original artistic text converted to curves will remain as you have designed and will not lose font clarity or shape, be altered by another display or change properties if you are sending to a printer or print bureau.

Adding Special Characters in CorelDraw.

You can embed a graphic object or bitmap in text. The graphic object or bitmap is treated as a text character. As a result, you can apply formatting options according to the type of text in which you embed the graphic object. You can also remove an embedded object from text, after which the object returns to its original state.

You can add special characters to text as text objects or as graphic objects. When you add special characters as text, you can format the characters as you do the text. When you add special characters as graphic objects, the characters are curves. Consequently, you can edit them as you would other graphic objects.

You can also change objects, such as company logos or modified letters, into special characters, and then add them to a character set. This lets you add an object to text as a text or graphic object. The object is automatically resized to match the proportions of other characters in the set.

You can create patterns with special characters by tiling them across the page. Each character in the pattern is a separate object to which you can apply effects. You can change the spacing between the rows and columns in which the characters are arranged.
